Mars Valles Marineris

A few years back I developed a model made from the MOLA data that Nasa and JPL collected from Mars via laser alitmetry.

I gave this map to some friends that moved into a new home in Reno, so I have always wanted to make another one that just zooms into the Valles Marineris with a bit more vertical exaggeration.

Here’s a sneak preview at a detail shot of this new map as it is being created.

As the time has passed, I’ve developed new techniques on the CNC and especially with the 3D model creation that have allowed me to achieve ultra high resolution on this carving. THis should be a pretty sepcial map.

And it will be a good dress rehearsal for when SpaceX Calls and wants a Board Room table cut from a 12 foot long 12” thick Redwood slab.
