About Us
Terra Ligna maps are made by Grant Kaye and Michael Crabb.
Grant Kaye, MSc, PhD
Grant has loved and admired cartography for as long as he can remember. He pursued an education and then a career in GIS-based mapping as a natural hazards scientist for many years, earning a Masters of Science in Geology from Oregon State and a PhD in Hazard and Disaster Management from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. For years, Grant travelled around the world studying volcanoes and how their eruptions impacted their surroundings.
In 2008, Grant moved back to Lake Tahoe where he shifted gears and worked in GIS at the Town of Truckee through 2012, and then as a professional photography instructor & commercial photographer through 2020. Grant is currently the Director of Marketing and Community Outreach at the Truckee Tahoe Lumber Company, and a CNC/laser/woodworking instructor at the Truckee Roundhouse Community Makerspace, which he co-founded in 2015 with some friends. He is still involved in its operations.
Grant lives in the forests of Truckee with his wife Kirsten, their son Alex, and their rescued Indian street dog Ravi Shankar.
